Follow up on Korean adoption

Hello everyone!  After the exciting announcement made a few days ago regarding the new age waivers for Korean adoption, we wanted to follow up with how the Korean adoption program has been doing this year. While the process has underwent some changes and the time to complete an adoption has extended, the program is still alive and well!

The most recent change to the process is related to the paperwork. The Ministry of Health and Welfare in Korea (MOHW) now requires references be included with the family's EP (Exit Permission) paperwork.  The references are already required as part of the homestudy process, so this is easy to do and does not require any additional action by adoptive families.

Here's what has been going on recently in the Korea Program at AAC

In 2013, AAC welcomed home 11 children from Korea.
This year, as of July 31, 2014:

  • 18 children have come home
  • 3 families are currently waiting for the court's final approval so that they can travel to pick up their children
  • 4 families have a court hearing scheduled in August
  • 6 families have EP approval and are waiting for their court date to be set
  • 8 families' paperwork has been submitted to the MOHW and are awaiting EP approval
  • 13 families' files have been sent to ESWS for translation in preperation for EP submissions

There are many little ones (particularly bouncing toddler boys) who are waiting for their forever families to find them and begin the process to bring them home.  So, we'd love to add your family to one of these numbers and subtract one from the list of children who are waiting.  If you are interested in learning more, you can call our office at 970-532-3576, our Inquiry Specialist at 970-775-4683 or email us at info@aacadoption.com
